::::CNN PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND OF MY IPAD
THE MAYOR SPEAKS::::::
248 cases in Queens
277 cases in Manhattan
100’s in Brooklyn
Less than 100 on Staten Island
Lost 7 of our fellow New Yorkers to Corona Virus.
PERSPECTIVE.
HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP?
I often get messages like this on social media, as is everyone, and through SMS that is a mixture of macabre, humor, and uncertainty.
Should we laugh?Should we be angry?Should we cry?
I know for a fact that today is normally something that the United States, at least – and on a more local level, in New York, there would be bar crawls galore, festooned with beads and hats, oversized beer mugs celebrating the holiday formerly known as St. Patrick’s Day. All that is at a stand still, with the fluid, apocalyptic situation that is.
How could we talk about mechanics of officiating, when everyday there are less and less cars on the road with the need for a mechanic. Forget about officiating: the whole need for the sporting industry is grinded to a halt, so much so that every sporting show and post about sports is like ESPN Classic.
As of this writing, I’m in an eating establishment, a small business, with big problems. They have ebb’d back and forth with trying to have a presence on social media; yet the media is inundated with mixed messages of this Coronavirus with no centra. The quarantining of South Korea, or the worst case scenario of Italy, and how it can go either way in the United States.
Perspective.
First and foremost, I wish everyone health, continued health, and I hope that everyone goes step by step in not looking to far to the distant future and not be a prisoner of your own worst thoughts. CNN, NY Times has a duty to speak what’s going on – it can also get you into the rabbit hole, especially with the absence of sport, to realize those fears.
PERSPECTIVE.
I never took for granted officiating, reffing, sport and all that it entails. I think how much we miss sport collectively, shows how important it was to us from jump. It used to be an escape for tragedies and disaster like this. What makes this even more unbearable is that it wiped this out too.
Perspective.
I know for me, with the absence of officiating, I’m trying my damnedest to get better at writing; to get better at creating videos. To get more artistic where I can start drawing. I’ve also lost sight of reading books and consuming other things to keep me preoccupied because I’ve been so bogged down with officiating and making this sight. Maybe this was for all of us to find balance in the things we do. To find perspective in all of this.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
