Dual Certified Basketball Official, In pursuit of the next game.
If there’s an adult league, or little kids running around playing basketball on Long Island, chances are, Steve Ross is in the building. In this wide-ranging interview taped late 2019, we discuss his early life in Glen Cove, playing Tennis at an elite level, and his love that started young and went late in his life, officiating Basketball. All that and more, my conversation with Steve, now.
Steve Ross, Rest In Peace. A fellow brother in the brother and sister hood. Steve was an early supporter of my officiating career and of Referee Rant, someone that told me off air, after we were recording his interview that he thought I had a future in this. What struck me about Steve is his passion for officiating. He, like many of us in the circuit would load up with games, often times 3 at one place, then 4 at another, only to go to another 2 at night – just to do it all over again, the next day. I was so happy I was able to speak to him at length before he passed, because I was worried about him during this uncertain time. What is certain is that he’s in a better place, with no more suffering. I hope this brings people those that listen to this a reminder of Steve, good times we’ve had on the basketball court, the memories we made, and the laughs that we shared. We will miss you, Steve.
