As #MDW comes and goes, the Summer, for a terse 100 days, lingers long. I want it to linger forever; but the appeal of Summer in New York is that it is just a short burst, then it’s gone – as if it never came. I’m looking to make it a memorable summer. I’m also looking to make it a productive AF.
“No matter how many goals you have achieved, you
must set your sights on a higher one.”
– Jessica Savitch
Having said that, I got a lot of goals; goals that evolve from what was once the beginning of the year. Not saying that I’m moving the goal posts like Donald Trump, but as the seasons change, so has my aim.
“My aim is true.” – Elvis Costello
First and foremost, BEACH is a priority. Catch me down at Long Beach, NY, all day everyday.
At night, you can catch me doing a Basketball game, somewhere, anywhere. I’m limiting my sports to the following: Flag Football, Lacrosse, and of course, Basketball. No Baseball. As much as I love hardball, I made the hard decision – I’m not going to spend an 88 degree day, armed with humidity, wearing a Heather Grey pants and shin guards. That doesn’t sit, I mean squat right with me.
I look back at my goals, in terms of officiating, from New Years:
1. Master Mechanics/sign as with an emphasis on my Left Hand being dominant, with my right wing the secondary hand.
2. Master fitness with Yoga & Jump Rope – Keeping fit outside of officiating
3. Service at least 700 games —> however still pick and choose quality assignments > lower quality assignments.
4. Level up in umpiring Baseball
5. Level up in officiating Lacrosse
6. Use refereerant.com as a resource for the community of officials, from beginners to experts.
7. Have a good showing during Basketball Camp.
As January has gradually turned to the spring, and now the Summer, those goals have evolved. Terse kudos to me, as I’ve been able to accomplish 3, 4, 5, 6. 7 has yet to be determined as haven’t gotten to a camp yet. I’ve gotten better at my mechanics, and I fell off with my left hand, In terms of my fitness, I have lost some weight since the middle of April, but there is more work to be done. I’m working on documenting them.
“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t
adjust the goals, adjust the action steps.” – Confucius
HAVING SAID THAT, HERE ARE MY NEW GOALS FOR THIS SUMMER:
1. Further Bettering my mechanics and Signals
2. Becoming a better writer
3. Lose 20 lbs; Master Jump rope and become more flexible
4. Get better at media with Referee Rant
5. Read 10 books.
6. Continue to produce more content.
I wanted to state this publicly, like the 95 Thesis, so I can see it in writ form, on the site, to force me to make sure that I’m doing what I need to do to accomplish the goals.
“My personal goals are to be happy, healthy and to be surrounded
by loved ones.” – Kiana Tom
A goal without a plan is but a wish. No time to wish upon a star. The goals are upon us, and we need to work. I will try to document my progress as best as I can. Expect better content, better pods, and a couple of other surprises – All. Summer. Long.
“Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control: now.”
– Denis Whitley
Until tomorrow.
