About two years ago, I had the opportunity to be in the locker room and meet my first crew of professional referees. It was a G-League game held at Nassau Coliseum, where I got to meet three officials on the game, and we got to speak to them on what it took to get to that point. This was before Referee Rant, before I started taking this serious, which the flip, happened that day. It made me realize where we could take it with that flip.
If you are around the Westchester, NY area, the NBA is hosting a “You Make the Call” pre-game event that they will be hosting prior to the Westchester Knicks as they play the Maine Red Claws on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 5pm. Here is your chance to be around professional referees, and soak their wisdom and knowledge.
“You Make the Call” will be a pre-game chalk talk with Don Hudson, who is the Manager of Referee Operations with the NBA. The event is an opportunity for fans to learn how referees train in order to get the level they’re at, and a chance to show intricacies related to refereeing. The audience will also get to see a series of videos that show difficult plays and give them a chance to “Make the Call.”
As well as being informational, this will be a networking event, as there will be many referees from that area will be in attendance.
“You Make the Call” presentation will begin at 4pm. After the presentation is over, attendees will enjoy a 5pm game between the Westchester Knicks and the Maine Red Claws. 7’6” Tacko Fall has been an exciting player on the Main Red Claws (and Boston Celtics) this year.
Tickets start at $12, and of course include entry to “You make the Call.”
